March 30, 1759: The Four Layers of Earth
In a letter dated to March 30, 1759 the Italian mining engineer Giovanni Arduino (1714-1795) proposed to the physician and fossil collector Prof. Antonio Vallisnieri the subdivision of earth?s crust in various classes of rocks.
Based on his observations along the foothills of the Alps, Arduino recognized a stratigraphic column with 4 classes: unstratified or poorly stratified rocks (or ?Primary Rocks?, survived into the 20th century as ?Paleozoic?), stratified rocks (?Secondary Rocks?, or ?Mesozoic?), more recent, as yet unconsolidated, sediments (?Tertiary Rocks?) and as own category volcanic rocks.

MANILA ? IP E-Game Ventures Inc is eyeing new investments in its bid to enter the integrated gaming business.
Jaime Enrique Y. Gonzalez, E-Game president and chief executive officer, said the company plans to close a deal within the year for another gaming-related venture.
?We?re currently in the market and we?re evaluating other investments in this sector,? said Gonzalez.
?The business model today is what they call an integrated complex where you have hotel, gaming proposition, retail, and food and beverage. That?s the kind of business model we?re looking at implementing through acquisitions,? he said.
To bankroll its investments in gaming, Gonzales said E-Game will issue shares to investors out of a planned capital stock hike. In January, shareholders approved the amendment to its Articles of Incorporation, increasing its authorized capital stock from P300 million to P50 billion.
Last year, E-Game announced its foray into the business of food and beverage, entertainment, hotel and leisure, putting the company in a position to take advantage of the influx of gaming tourists in the country with the development of state-run Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp?s (Pagcor) Entertainment City at the Manila Bay reclamation area.
?The Philippines has been identified as the next growth market in terms of gaming in the region. You have Macau leading the world in terms of turnover followed by Singapore and Las Vegas. The Philippines, as a gaming destination, is the next rising star and we want to participate in that overall growth,? said Gonzalez.
Last year, E-Game purchased a 36,000-square-meter property in the Cagayan Special Economic Zone, home to the largest casino complex in the business park.
It also moved to acquire a 25 percent stake in Cosamera Resorts Corp, a hotel and resort company operating in the Cagayan Ecozone.
E-Game?s diversification into gaming and leisure came after it merged its Philippine online game publishing business with Level Up! Inc to create the largest gaming company in the country with an estimated market share of 70 percent.

Drobo adds Copy cloud syncing and Plex media server apps for 5N owners
Drobo has long had an apps platform to extend the usefulness of its smart drive enclosures, but there's been limits to what it can do in the cloud and mobile spaces. The company is widening that support this week, and it's inaugurating the effort with a pair of apps for the Drobo 5N. For us, the real highlight is Plex support, which turns the 5N into a high-capacity, redundant media server that can boost its storage as the content library gets bigger. The more pragmatic among us will like Barracuda Networks' Copy, which offers unlimited file syncing and sharing that will seem familiar to Dropbox aficionados. Copy is already available for free, while Plex should also be gratis when it's ready in April -- the only real hurdle will be justifying $600-plus for a living room video hub.

During the first crowdsourcing thread for the under construction WUWT Paleoclimate Reference Page, we had a number solid recommendations and WUWT moderator D.B. Stealey dropped a virtual mountain of links into comments here and here. The result is that the original WUWT Paleoclimate Reference Page has more than doubled in size and continues to grow as more comments from the prior crowdsourcing thread are added. Given the large number of additions and the fact that we now have a number of near-duplicate graphs, it seemed prudent to continue this crowdsourcing exercise to gain further input on the validity and value of each and all of the graphs.
There?will likely be at least one more crowdsourcing thread for the?WUWT Paleoclimate Reference Page, in order to assess a number of the currently disputed, questionable and falsified graphs, including Briffa et al., 1998, Jones et al., 1998, Mann et al., 1998, Pollack et al., 1998, Jones et al., 1998, Mann et al., 1999, Mann et al., 2000, Briffa et al., 2001, Esper et al., 2002 and Jones and Mann 2004, AR4 section 6.6.1.1 2007 and Marcott et al. 2013. Note that two (1, 2) of the graphs currently on the Paleoclimate page have a Disputed label, as per this comment and Alley?s own graph, the x axis label should read Years Before Present (1950 AD) not (2000 AD)
